The hottest entertainment news in Hollywood This is from People Daily News July 6, 2001 Whither 'Left Eye' Lopes and Rison? STEPHEN M. SILVERMAN TLC Grammy winner Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, 30, and former Atlanta Falcons receiver Andre Rison, 34, did not get married on Thursday, as they had said they would, a publicist for her record label confirmed to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She was in L.A., shooting a new music video, instead. The two still care for one another, however, according to the rep, Matt Shelton of Arista. No new date has been announced. News of their impeding marriage, which Rison broke during a recent radio interview, came as a bit of a surprise to fans, given that after a 1994 fight with Rison the singer was charged with setting fire to the $1.3 million Alpharetta, Ga., home that they shared. Lopes pleaded guilty to arson charges, and later served the first of two stints in alcohol rehab. Last fall, there were reports that she and then-boyfriend Sean Newman were seen together in New Orleans, Chicago, Honduras and London (where they were reputedly shopping for wedding rings). Speaking of her relationship with Rison, who was her date at last year's Grammys ceremony, Lopes told the Journal-Constitution, "You know, me and Andre just have a bond that no one will understand. Sometimes, even I don't." The Next Entertainment News: July 6, 2001 'Sopranos' Actor Sings a New Tune STEPHEN M. SILVERMAN Actor Robert Iler, 16, has issued a statement regarding his arrest on the 4th of July and subsequent reports that he and the friends who were arrested with him joked in their jail cell and had appeared anything but contrite. Iler, who plays the mischievous son of mob boss Tony Soprano on the hit HBO series "The Sopranos," and three friends allegedly robbed two 16-year-old Brazilian boys outside a deli on Manhattan's Upper East Side early on Wednesday morning. They were arrested nearby when the victims pointed them out to police after allegedly spotting them sitting on a park bench. Claiming his innocence, Iler, who has been charged with robbery and unlawful possession of marijuana, said the following via his publicist: "I feel terribly embarrassed. I never ever would or did rob anyone in my life. I know that the events of the past two days have been extremely difficult for my family and friends and for that I am sorry." According to the criminal complaint obtained by Reuters, Iler and his friends threatened their victims, saying: "Give us your money. Do you wanna die? Do you wanna die?" Iler's attorney said his client never saw the alleged robbery or heard any demand for money. Iler could face a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison if convicted on the top count of robbery. He was released on $2,500 bail after pleading not guilty at his arraignment. A hearing has been set for July 9. The Next Entertainment News: July 6, 2001 Janet Jackson: It's All for Who? STEPHEN M. SILVERMAN With just one day to go before premiering her "All For You" world tour before a nearly sold-out crowd -- some 13,000 strong -- in Vancouver, British Columbia, Janet Jackson and her handlers decided to postpone Thursday night's show, citing a late arrival of stage equipment. The new date will be Monday, July 9. As a result, Jackson's tour will kick off this Saturday in Portland, Ore. A scheduled July 10 concert in Edmonton, Alberta, has been canceled altogether. "This production is so big, and there are so many pieces coming from different places," explained Shane Bourbonnais, vice president of SFX Music Canada, which is offering full refunds for both the postponed and the canceled gigs. "Unfortunately, all the pieces didn't arrive in time, and Janet Jackson wasn't prepared to put on a show that wasn't 100 percent. She's a real perfectionist." Jackson, 35, has said that the title of her album and tour is meant as a tribute to her fans. She is scheduled to perform nearly 60 dates in North America this summer before taking her "All For You" road trip through Europe in the fall and winter.
